WHAT IS CAPECITABINE?
Capecitabine is an anti-cancer ("antineoplastic" or "cytotoxic") chemotherapy drug. Capecitabine is classified as an "antimetabolite. Antimetabolites are cell-cycle specific. They attack cells at very specific phases in the cycle.
Capecitabine is used for Metastatic colon or rectal cancer and Metastatic breast cancer. Capecitabine belongs to the category of chemotherapy called antimetabolites. Antimetabolites are very similar to normal substances within the cell. When the cells incorporate these substances into the cellular metabolism, they are unable to divide.
