WHAT IS FEBUXOSTAT ?
Febuxostat belongs to a class of medications called xanthine oxidase inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of uric acid in the body and thereby preventing gout attacks. Febuxostat is used to treat gout.
Febuxostat reduces the production of uric acid in your body. Uric acid buildup can lead to gout or kidney stones. Febuxostat is used to treat painful joint condition (gout) and increased blood uric acid levels (hyperuricemia).
POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:
chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling;
sudden numbness or weakness, especially on one side of the body;
sudden headache, confusion, problems with vision, speech, or balance; or
nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
Less serious side effects may include:
nausea; joint pain, swelling, or stiffness; mild skin rash; or dizziness.
