WHAT IS PEMETREXED?

Pemetrexed is an anti-cancer ("antineoplastic" or "cytotoxic") chemotherapy drug. Pemetrexed is classified as an "antimetabolite". Premetrexed belongs to the class of chemotherapy drugs called antimetabolites.  Antimetabolites are very similar to normal substances within the cell.  When the cells incorporate these substances into the cellular metabolism, they are unable to divide.  Antimetabolites are cell-cycle specific.  They attack cells at very specific phases in the cycle. 

USES:

Pemetrexed is used for: Pemetrexed is used in the treatment of malignant mesothelioma and Locally advanced or metastatic nonsquamous nonsmall cell lung cancer.

POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS:

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have:

severe ongoing vomiting or diarrhea; bone marrow suppression--fever, swollen gums, painful mouth sores, cold or flu symptoms, sore throat, pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, skin sores, red or pink urine, rapid heart rate, feeling light-headed or short of breath,
kidney problems--swelling, rapid weight gain, little or no urinating; signs of dehydration--feeling very thirsty or hot, being unable to urinate, heavy sweating, hot and dry skin; or severe skin reaction--fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.


Common side effects may include:

tired feeling, loss of appetite, weight loss; upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; mild rash; or hair loss.

STORAGE:

Store intact vials at room temperature of 25°C (77°F); excursions permitted to 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Reconstituted solution in NS and infusion solutions (in D5W or NS) are stable for 24 hours when refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F). Concentrations at 25 mg/mL are stable in polypropylene syringes for 2 days at room temperature (23°C)
